This blog post is meant to inspire you to start doing what ever it is that you always dream about, have a burning passion for, and ultimately, to start finding your edge.
This was the very first photo that my best friend and I posted on Instagram displaying that we were starting our own custom-made bralette business to all of our friends, was super nerve-wracking!
I Started My Own Bralette and Jewelry Business?
When I think back to why I started blogging, it definitely did not come as an instant goal of mine. I dabbled in many things throughout school, with one thing remaining constant, which was my love of fashion. I started my own custom-made bralette and later evolved- jewelry business with one of my best friends, teaching myself how to sew and everything! Soon to realize I had way more fun creating the brand through instagram rather than sewing the bras. Although, my dream still didn’t immediately click after that experience. I then started working in retail (Shout-out to my Pink girls!), where I thought it would be a goal of mine to work up in the industry and use my business skills to work in head office one day, while also being able to be around fashion. I got promoted to a few supervisor positions and was very successful on the store-level, I even got to help out with the store’s social media! But, STILL I was left feeling like a part of me was missing.
One of the photos I posted in collaboration with Toronto brand, Peace Collective. I can’t believe how far I’ve come in terms of my photography skills- omg I don’t think I would post this now lol! But, everyone needs to start somewhere!
My First Brand Collaboration:
I always played around with social media, where my friends always told me, “you have such a nice instagram theme!”. But I didn’t really think of this as a business at all and just kind of rolled those comments off. I got my first brand collaboration with a Toronto company called, Peace Collective, where they sent me products for me to post and I was apart of their brand ambassador program. This is what introduced me to the idea of collaborating with brands through my blog and really opened up my eyes to the idea of being a social media influencer, so exciting!
Literally one of the only photos we have together…which needs to change! Shot at Wayhome Festival 2016. Guess what, we were even named best-dressed!
The Person Who Inspired Me the Most (other than myself of course):
My boyfriend, a musician, played a huge part in pushing me to take risks and settling for nothing other than what makes me happy in every decision I make. He went on to get a record deal with Universal Music Canada, living his dream each and every minute of the day with his band mates (their single will be out this February, wooo!). They were experiencing opportunities that you could only dream about and I couldn’t be more proud and inspired by him at what he has accomplished! But, I also couldn’t help but question why I wasn’t doing everything in my power to do the same and live out MY dream.
This was almost exactly a year ago from today! One of my first outfit shots, and let me tell you, I have spent some time in front of this white brick wall! When I look at the next picture, I can’t believe the progress of my photos.
“Whatever you have that burning passion for…”:
After many conversations with my boyfriend and some friends of mine, I took risks and let go of things I always thought I was obligated to do. I will never forget him saying, “whatever you have that burning passion for is all that matters in life”. So, I quit my part-time retail job about a month ago, I stopped worrying so much about what other people thought, and just did what made me happy, which was blogging and making fashion and social media my everyday life! Thinking of a 9-5-office job made me depressed just even thinking about it. Nothing is stopping you from making your life how you want it. If you are passionate, success will come! It’s an unstoppable equation.
What it Means to, “Define Style Through Finding Your Edge”:
I started to reflect on these new lifestyle choices I was making, where I realized I found the EDGE to myself I had been looking for. This edge is something I now establish in what I wear, my overall motivation for getting what I want in life, even my instagram theme.
Through my blog I want you to feel inspired by the edge I was able to find (and still evolving on), and hopefully motivate you to find your edge as well. And look, I am only 21! You are never too young or old to find your edge. Why would you wait a minute longer to find out what you already know you love and have an edge for? It can start TODAY.
